Shea’s journey into intellectual property started in 2016 when he joined PwC, Belfast as a school leaver, with his initial sector focus being in the early-stage life sciences and pharmaceutical space. Throughout Shea’s time there he gained a deep understanding of the value of intellectual property and intangible assets which often get overlooked by businesses and lenders as they were generally not assessed outside of the context of an acquisition. After 5.5 years at PwC Shea made the move to London, working within the private markets valuations team at a private pension fund for 2.5 years after which he took a career break to travel and ultimately joined Hilco in December 2025.
Shea will initially be involved in a wide-range and diverse span of projects, covering the valuation of crypto assets for tax purposes, the development of airfield management software to support legacy planning, and the valuation of manufacturing patents and brand assets to assist with loan renegotiations.
“We’re delighted to welcome Shea to the team,” said Steve Kerr, Senior Director, Intellectual Property. “Shea’s experience and versatility across complex valuation projects will be a tremendous asset to our clients and our wider team. Since joining in December, Shea has already demonstrated a strong ability to adapt quickly and add value across a diverse range of engagements.”

Which areas of intellectual property are you passionate about, and why?
I’m particularly passionate about IP where it intersects with commercial decision-making, especially IP valuation and commercialisation, trade marks as business assets, and the emerging challenges around AI and data.
Are there any key IP trends or developments that you think businesses should be especially aware of right now?
IP is a continually evolving market and we are seeing an increased focus from clients across all sectors. We can see that IP is increasingly being treated as a financial asset to support financing, licensing, and M&A. This highlights the importance for businesses to understand the true commercial value of their patents, trademarks, or designs more than ever.
Outside of work, what do you enjoy doing?
In my spare time I enjoy travelling, cooking and golfing.
