Steve Kerr

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Steve Kerr as our new Director of Intellectual Property.

Before joining Hilco, Steve spent his entire career at Deloitte. He joined the graduate program and had his fair share of stock takes, counting things from chickens (don’t worry, they’d hatched), to door frames and even missile casings. This all firmly convinced Steve that he was better off behind a desk and so spent the last five years in the Tax & Legal Valuations team in London, where he oversaw intangible asset valuation projects but also equity and business valuations.

Steve’s valuations were for a wide range of purposes such as international restructuring exercises, purchase price allocations, impairment reviews, taxable events, financial reporting, and others. He generally specialised in complex or unusual cases, so it’s very much been a case of “no two valuations are the same” for Steve so far.

Commenting on the appointment Chris Hall CEO, Hilco Valuation Services Europe said;

“I am delighted to welcome Steve on board to lead our Intellectual Property department. Steve will be based in the London Head Office and joins the company at a time of continued growth across all regional offices. We look forward to seeing Steve build new relationships across our networks.”

Biggest work accomplishment within IP?

I’ve achieved better than anticipated results for clients on a number of multi-billion-pound global IP restructuring projects and had the privilege to work with some incredibly accomplished advisors and clients, and as advisor to many household brands. However, rather than all of the project-based achievements, I think my greatest IP work accomplishment will be the long-lasting impact of my work with developers to create automated and semi-automated online valuation tools.

What is the most unusual case you have been involved in?

Until starting this role, my most unusual case was probably being asked to attest to an individual’s wealth in order to expedite a passport application under some quite suspect circumstances – for the record, I didn’t. Although, not being able to face the call from the Risk department probably played a big part in that. I think meeting the ex-PA of a famous deceased musician to discuss the validity of a co-developed fragrance could potentially top it though…

Do you have any interesting facts about yourself?

How about my two truths and a lie that have been recycled at events for a decade:

• I’ve hitchhiked over 5,000km;
• I’ve cycled from London to Istanbul; and
• I had three pet foxes as a child.
