Acquisition Opportunity

Hilco is seeking offers to acquire the intellectual property and tangible assets of Playdead Limited (In Liquidation) t/a Revenant (“Revenant” or the “Company”) on behalf of the Liquidator of the Company, Steven Wright of Dains.

Background

Prior to Liquidation, Revenant operated as a premium animation and visual-effects studio, producing high-end animation, motion graphics and VFX for broadcast, film, gaming, global brands and immersive experiences and delivering visually distinctive content designed to engage audiences and elevate brand narratives across multiple platforms.

The Company built a strong reputation for cinematic-quality output and creative execution, working with internationally recognised clients including the BBC, Netflix and Riot Games. Revenant’s work spans commercial, broadcast and experiential environments, reflecting its ability to adapt its creative and technical capabilities to a wide range of formats, distribution channels and audience requirements. Revenant’s project catalogue of commissions includes Iron Sail, Apollo 13: Survival, Beyond Endurance, Future Genesis and Everhaven, each highlighting the studio’s capability to deliver complex, visually ambitious projects at scale. The Company’s successful projects demonstrates its strength in combining narrative-led creative direction with advanced animation and VFX workflows suitable for global markets.

Alongside commissioned client work, the Company has invested in the development of original intellectual property and concepts, including the animated project The Pony Express, supported by funding from Creative Scotland, which already generated interest from potential partners across licensing, distribution and commercial exploitation and offering a route to revenues beyond pure services revenue.

This acquisition represents an opportunity to secure the intellectual property and tangible assets of a recognised premium animation studio with a proven track record of high-profile global client work, an established creative identity, and a portfolio that supports both continued commissioned production and the development of original content for future exploitation.

Revenant has established itself as a distinctive and well-regarded name within the premium animation, VFX and motion-design sector, associated with cinematic-quality output, strong narrative-led creative direction, and technical execution capable of meeting the demands of global broadcasters, major brands and gaming studios.

Unlike commodity post-production or short-form motion studios, Revenant has positioned itself at the higher end of the creative spectrum, combining original visual world-building with advanced animation and VFX workflows. The brand’s reputation was enhanced by its portfolio of high-profile commissions for internationally recognised clients, including the BBC, Netflix and Riot Games, and by its consistent presence in award programmes and industry press.

The credibility of the Revenant brand has been reinforced through multiple international awards and festival recognition, particularly for flagship projects such as Future Genesis and Everhaven, which received accolades across animation, VFX and branded-content categories. The brand’s achievements provide third-party validation of the studio’s creative and technical standing and contribute to its reputation as a premium creative partner rather than a purely service-led supplier.

For an acquirer, the Revenant brand represents a credible and name within the high-end animation and creative-content market, offering immediate recognition, industry trust and portfolio depth, providing a foundation from which to re-engage clients, continue premium commissioned work, and develop original IP under an established and respected creative identity.
